time of day but they had a sleepless night because they were up cleaning and preparing for a show down. there were concerns that there would be a show down with the nypd because the park's owners appealed to the city to intervene and help them remove the protesters from this park so that they can clean it. it has been a month since it has been clean. they wanted to power wash it. but the protesters were concerned that this was a way to silence them. they were told if they came back into the park once they left they would have to obey park rules and some of those rules include no camping, no sleeping bags, no personal belongings.
12:02 pm
early this morning before 6:00 a.m. up to 1,000 just before that was suppose to start, word came down that the owners of the park informed the city that they were going to postpone this park cleaning and they were going to try to come to an agreement with the protesters themselves. they started an impromptu march to wall street and the stock exchange and that's when things got a little bit testy. there were 14 arrests as the protesters were trying to march in the street and the police were trying to maintain order to keep them from moving down that path. since then it's just been another day. people are catching up on their

sleep. getting their organization up and running again. tomorrow is expected to be a global day of protest. we will certainly see this thing growing. >> thank you so much with the very latest. of course stopping back with you and we continue to develop. can herman cain stay at the top and can rick perry get back there? news editor for town hall. good afternoon to you both. karen, we will start with you. we can't help but think of the big news this week and the race. those are some of the poll numbers from yesterday showing that herman cain out in front. he and rick perry seem to be doing a political version of a star is born. one rising at the expense of others.
12:04 pm
how can cain turn that into a primary win. >> number one is purely tactical. he clearly needs to hire more staff so that they can really improve their ground game. at this point it has been him and a handful of people. one of the things when you move to the front, you come under much greater scrutiny. you have got to have a campaign operation to help you handle that. he has got to show that there is more to him than the 9-9-9 plan and he is going to answer the critics on many sides of the isle. economists have raised lots of concerns about when you dig into the numbers. there has not been much of a response.
12:05 pm
>> as it gets more and more scrutiny, could the thing that helped vault him also take him back down to earth? >> i'm not sure. i agree with her and the idea that he needs to explain his plan and maybe come up with and tell people what developed this plan and what was behind the idea of really going with the 9-9-9. i think once we saw in the debate last week that he really can demand it and he will have to keep defending it and he will get a lot more attention not only from the public but from the debates moving forward. it's up to him to keep moving forward. he is not like perry who is bad at explaining why he is on the issues. he does well on debates and i think he are be able to explain why it will benefit voters.
12:06 pm
>> you are reading my mind. perry is in pittsburgh making a big speech. here is what he told matt lauer on the "today show." >> i don't worry too much about polls. i know a lot of people watch them and talk about them. i have run for office now three times in the state of texas. my numbers have been up. they have been down. i don't worry about those. i go out every day and try to do my job. >> let's get more advice from karen. what does he need to do? >> i am going to start charging these guys. >> how does he reboot here? >> number one, it's my understanding from the earlier reports that there were not a lot of specifics. the same things that president obama has been talking about in terms of new energy sources and jobs creation.
12:07 pm
he is going to have to give more specifics. rick perry can't show up and say tune in two days from now and i will give you more on the plan. he has got to show that he has the chops to run a national campaign, not just a good old boy from texas who all of the sudden, oh my goodness, is in the bright spotlight. being president is a hard job and he is not showing that he is up for it. >> we have mitt romney and some numbers out on him. his third quarter fund raising numbers here, $14.2 million, rick perry at 17 and clearly behind president obama's numbers. they are behind what many thought they should be or where they were historically. who does this help right now in the field? >> people are going to say this will hurt romney because his
12:08 pm
numbers are lower. rick perry has only been in this for a shorter time period. mitt romney's strategy since the beginning has been that slow and steady wins the race and i don't think this will affect him negatively. >> both of them have respectable numbers that will clearly carry them a little further. i have been surprised that the rnc numbers are not higher. you would expect that the institutional party donors would make sure that the party is ready for whoever is the party nominee. >> whoever is chosen. that's right. have a good friday. now to the wife of rick perry who came out swinging yesterday telling a south carolina audience that she is tired of how her husband has been portrayed in the media. good afternoon to you kelly? >> well anita perry has been making a number of stops and
12:09 pm
talking to different audiences and she has done something we don't normally see candidate spouses do and when they do it it makes news. she revealed a lot more about what she has been feeling as the wife of a once front-runner, now a candidate who is taking a lot of hits in this campaign, governor rick perry. she also talked about faith. that setting made sense. but when it is on camera and seen everywhere so anita perry really told us how she feels. a public display of the private side of anita perry today exposing her deep christian faith. >> amen. >> and deep frustration over attacks on her husband's campaign.
12:10 pm
>> we're being scrutinized by our own party. >> 60% of republican voters say they are christian and today mrs. perry wiped tears recalling her grandfather who had been a deacon and used biblical references to declare that god revealed to her that her husband should run for president. >> he felt like he needed to see the burning bush. i said look, let me tell you something, you may not have seen that burning bush but there are people who have seen it for you. i think the debates have been unfair. i think he has been the recipient of arrows. >> mrs. perry's tone took on a sharp edge later today at more secular campaign events. >> when i hear 9-9-9, i want to
12:11 pm
call 911. >> someone said it may take 40 years to recover from president obama. if he is re-elected, i don't know that 40 years will be enough. >> so hearing anita perry unfiltered gave us a win do into what he was thinking. rick perry was asked about her comments and he said it is often the family members who feel a lot of this more personally than the candidates do. she said she understood this this would be tough and more intense than she expected, especially after being in public life for so long. she has been texas first lady longer than anyone else because her husband has been in office more than ten years. >> great look at that. thank you.
